In life, people often focus on what someone is doing. But the truth is, it is not only about what we do. It is about how we do it and why we do it. Our intentions and motives matter more than many people realize.
Today we live in a society where people quickly copy what others are doing. They do what others do because they want to be where others are. If something becomes popular, many people jump on it. They want to be where others are, do what others are doing, and have what others have. But living like this can cause a person to lose who they really are.
God does not look at life the same way people do. People often look at the outside … the actions, the results, or the success. But God looks deeper. He looks at the heart behind the action.
God looks at the heart
A powerful example of this is King David. David was not perfect. In fact, the Bible shows that he made serious mistakes during his life. Yet God still favored him and blessed him.
Why?
It was not simply because of what David did. It was because of the kind of heart he had toward God.
The Bible says in Acts 13:22:
“I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.”
David had a heart that wanted to follow God. He was always thinking about God, meditating on His word and he had a unique intimate relationship with God. He prayed, he repented when he failed, and he desired to please God. His heart was in the right place. That is what made the difference.
Do not copy other people
Many people today feel pressure to copy others. They see someone successful and try to do the exact same thing. But each person has their own path.
You do not need to copy someone else’s life to succeed.
God created every person differently. Your gifts, your calling, and your journey will not look exactly like someone else’s. Trying to become a copy of another person will only take you further away from who you were meant to be.
It is always better to be yourself and walk the path God has placed in front of you.
Check your motives
Before doing anything, it is good to ask a simple question: Why am I doing this?
Is it for attention?
Is it to impress people?
Or is it coming from the right heart?
When our motives are right, the things we do carry more meaning. Even small actions can have great value when they are done with the right intention.
God is not only interested in the action. He cares about the heart behind the action.
Do not envy successful people
It is also important not to become jealous when we see others succeed. Success often comes with sacrifices that many people do not see.
Behind someone’s success there may have been:
- Time and discipline
- Prayer
- Fasting
- Waiting
- Giving
- Hard decisions
They have also been through many wilderness seasons and seasons of hiding to be shaped by God. Many people see the result but never see the process. Instead of jealousy, it is better to respect the journey people have taken. Everyone has their own story and their own sacrifices.
Live With the Right Heart
At the end of the day, what truly matters is the condition of our heart. What we do is important, but why we do it matters even more.
Do not live your life just copying others. Do not chase things simply because everyone else is chasing them.
Be yourself.
Keep your intentions right.
And live with a heart that wants to honor God.
